NEWCASTLE RIDE AID IN THE PINK
A pink-themed Ladies of Harley motorcycle ride-out from the Newcastle Harley-Davidson and Buell showroom to Linden Hall has helped to take the total fundraising tally to date for the Newcastle Ride Aid charity challenge to almost £4,000. However, with just three weeks to go to the main ride out from Newcastle to John O’ Groats via Lands End, the ambitious Tyneside team still have a long way to go to reach the £25,000 target.
Yesterday’s ladies ride out attracted almost 70 people on 44 motorcycles in support of the campaign to raise money to go towards purchasing a Scinti scanner machine for Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI). The new equipment will minimise the extent of surgery required by many breast cancer patients receiving treatment at the Tyneside hospital.
The Ladies of Harley event raised a total of £520 from the sale of raffle tickets and a collection tin being circulated to people at the Linden Tree at Linden Hall and the Highlander pub. The campaign’s fundraising efforts, which runs throughout October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – is now starting to gather pace.
“We had a fantastic day on the Ladies of Harley ride out” says organiser Debbie Polwarth, “and the icing on the cake was knowing that all of our efforts were going towards such a worthwhile cause. Even the men who took part dressed in pink to get into the spirit. I’d like to thank everybody who has supported us so far and urge everybody to dig deep to help us get even closer to our target.
“Special thanks also go to Julie Horsefield, the Chapter Director of the dealership’s Harley Owners Group (HOG) who had the initial thought of the fundraising and whom has been a tremendous help to all involved.”
Owners of the Newcastle Harley-Davidson and Buell dealership responsible for initiating the campaign, David Hall and Paul O’Callaghan, are now urging all motorcycling enthusiasts and Tyneside residents to support the campaign.
